| The
Hotham Winter Triathlon - September 8th 2007
The
Hotham Winter Triathlon is one of the most unique and captivating
sporting contests in the country, and is Australia's only officially
sanctioned Winter Triathlon.
Now in its second year, the Hotham Winter Triathlon
is part of a two-race Continental Series that includes a Winter
Triathlon in New Zealand in August. The event has tremendous significance
within the International Triathlon Union, forming part of their
case towards making Winter Triathlon’s an official Winter
Olympic sport for the 2010 games. In the inaugral running, almost
70 competitors took part in what most felt was an enjoyable and
challenging sporting contest in one of the most scenic parts of
the country. In 2007, whilst the event will comply with official
ITU rules, the course will be designed so that both elite and amateur
athletes will find the event enjoyable.
The
event will consist of a run approximately 7 kilometres in length
(predominantly on snow), a mountain bike approximately 12 kilometres
in length (predominantly on cross-country tracks), before finishing
with a 10 kilometre cross-country ski. The course will be approximately
halved for juniors (under 15).
The event has official backing from both the International
Triathlon Union and Triathlon Australia, and incorporates the Australian
National and Oceania Championships. However any standard of athlete
is encouraged to participate and have a go on the day.
The Hotham Winter Triathlon involves three disciplines
- a run, a cycle and a cross country ski. You may enter as an individual
(where
you do all three legs yourself), a team of 3 (where you do a leg
each) or a corporate team (where 3 of you do all three legs at the
same time).
We would be delighted if we could welcome you to
this very unique event! Experience a fantastic competition atmosphere
in beautiful alpine surroundings as an individual participant, a
team member or a spectator!
